Coloura privacy policy
The short version
- Coloura works out your color season on your phone. No server or online service analyzes you.
- Your selfie and the photos you scan never leave your phone. We never see them.
- There is no account, no ads, and no analytics or tracking tools in the app.
- The only information that leaves your phone is what is needed to sell and check a subscription, and a one-time download of the app's on-device models, described below.
What Coloura stores on your phone
Coloura keeps the following in its private storage on your device. We cannot see or access any of it.
- Your quiz answers (8 questions): to calculate your season, so the same answers always give the same result.
- Your result (season, runner-up, confidence score, undertone): to show your palette without recalculating.
- One cropped copy of your selfie: so the Draping and Hair & makeup screens can show colors on your face.
- Your scan history (up to 30 scanned colors with their match scores): so you can look back at colors you checked.
- Whether your subscription is active (refreshed from the store): to unlock paid features.
- The on-device model files described below.
On-device analysis
Coloura uses on-device machine-learning models from Google's MediaPipe library. One model separates hair, skin, clothing and background in a photo, so the scanner reads only the garment and the selfie reads only your skin. Another finds the outline of your lips, eyes and cheeks so the makeup preview lands in the right place. Both run entirely on your phone.
Model download. The first time you open Coloura it downloads these model files from Google's servers (storage.googleapis.com) and keeps them on your phone. The download sends no photo or personal information, only the technical details every internet request carries, such as your IP address and app version.
How the selfie is used. The camera captures three frames. Coloura measures your skin color in each frame and averages them, on your phone, and keeps one cropped copy. Temporary capture files stay in Coloura's private cache. They are never uploaded and never saved to your photo library.
How the scanner uses photos. When you take or choose a photo of clothing or makeup, Coloura reads the color you tap, on your phone. It does not keep the photo, only the color and its match score in your scan history.
Sharing. If you tap "Share my palette" or "Share this look", Coloura creates an image and opens your phone's share sheet. "Share this look" includes your selfie with the preview applied. Where it goes is up to you. Nothing is shared unless you choose to.
How to delete your data
- Start over: open Settings and tap Start over. This clears your answers, result, selfie and scan history.
- Delete the app: removing Coloura from your phone deletes everything it stored.
Because nothing about you is stored on our side, there is nothing for us to delete apart from the purchase records described below.
Purchases and subscriptions
Subscriptions are sold and paid through Apple's App Store or Google Play. We never receive your name, email address or card details. Apple's and Google's own privacy policies cover the payment.
To check whether your subscription is active, and to restore it on a new phone, Coloura uses RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.), a subscription service. RevenueCat receives:
- an anonymous app user ID, a random identifier created by the app that is not linked to your name, email or other contact details;
- your purchase receipts and transaction details from Apple or Google (product, price, dates, renewal status);
- the basic technical details any internet request carries, such as app version, platform and IP address.
We use this only to provide and verify your subscription and to see aggregate subscription figures. It is not used for advertising or to track you across other apps or websites. RevenueCat's privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy.
What Coloura does not do
- No account or sign-in.
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics, crash-reporting or tracking tools.
- No selling or sharing of personal information.
- No face recognition. Coloura finds where your lips and eyes are in order to draw a preview. It does not identify who is in the photo.
Permissions
- Camera: to take your selfie and, if you choose, a photo of clothing to scan.
- Photos: only if you choose a photo for the scanner. Coloura reads the photo you pick and nothing else.
You can turn these off at any time in your phone's settings.
Children
Coloura is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, or state privacy laws in the US), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information about you. Almost all Coloura data stays on your phone under your control. For the purchase records held by RevenueCat, contact [email protected]. Because the ID is anonymous, we may ask for your App Store or Google Play order number to find the right record.
Not professional advice
Coloura gives style suggestions based on a color-season model. It is not medical, dermatological or professional cosmetic advice.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Coloura handles information, we will update this page and its effective date. If a feature ever needs to send a photo off your phone, it will be optional, explained in the app before you use it, and described here first.
